You can sell collector items. If the item says customized for "your name" you can't sell it.

edit* there is no title for dying

If you can find someone to buy a collector item, you won't get much for it. Normally the merchant price. Some items are a bit more.

If you're unsure what is against the GW rules, give the EULA a read over. I'm sure everyone reads it instead of blindly hitting accept...

Technically untrue. You CAN sell it, although the buyer would be silly to buy it as it can't be USED by them.

unless its a canthan targe (which will not ever be able to go into a trade window/dropped/sold etc- you either use it or trash it) there is no way you can get banned for selling a shield.

It is perfectly allowable (and sometimes even encouraged) to sell things to other players. However, you have to use the game currency.

One of the problems in many on-line games is the selling for real world money of items and/or characters. Several years ago, a lot of people were kicked out of Sims Online for selling sim money on E-Bay. And most other games take a poor view of the idea of selling a virtual item from their game world for real hard cash.

So if you get a +infinity weapon, feel free to sell it to another character in the game, for gold. But do not take it outside of the game and try to auction it off on E-Bay or any other way.

The above post got my curiosity. Can't find any info on customised shields on wiki and can't say I've ever heard of them since I started playing. Love to be proven wrong tho.

It might be you were asking too much for the collector shield.
A gold shield with max armor - 2 damage while in stance +30HP might with nice skin might go for 100K ( just using a random number here)
While a collector shield with the same stats woudnt even come close to that since everyone can get that shield.

I beliebe the reason you dont see/hear about costumized shields is because you cant constumize them? costumizing gives a weapon +20% dmg , that woudnt be applied to a shield only to swords/axes/bows etc.

You didnt advertise it as a collectors shield, so they assumed you were trying to scam them (Trying to pass it off as a real shield).

Thats probably it

Shields and offhands on PvP characters are customized for themselves; otherwise shields and offhands are not customized. They do not gain any benefit from customization.

In what way is a collector's shield less real than a dropped or crafted one? Is it only there as long as you belive in it? Will it go *poof* and vanish in a puff of smoke at some point?

Sorry, I'm being sarcastic here, I know exactly what you mean. Collector's items aren't worth a single penny to many people, even though they have dream stats. Of course they shouldn't be worth as much as equally good rare items with a different skin, just because of the availibilty. But accusing people of scamming for selling collectors items is ridiculous.

It is only called scamming when the person tries to pass the collector shield as one of those hard to get never dropped golds. So say its a collector shield( or blue) and your safe.
